A Festive Wake-Up Call: How a Single Card Helped to Look for the Meaning Beyond the Holiday Rush

I sent my husband off on his hunting trip a few days ago. That was the day of a festive wake-up call for me.

I didn’t sleep well that night—my allergies were relentless, leaving my body itching and restless. As I was sleep-deprived I decided to have a slow day, savoring a peaceful pace, and spent half the day in my pajamas on the sofa next to the Christmas tree.

During moments like these, when life slows down just enough, we create space for reflection. I found a moment away from the everyday rush and festive bustling and finally had a chance to think about what went well during Christmas preparation and festivities. I thought of the decorations I made this year, food menus, organization, and gift preparations, what went well, and what would I do differently next time. That same morning, I opened our last Christmas gift. We had received it from our friends Paulius and Karolina the night before. That’s when I found a beautifully designed holiday card filled with heartfelt, hope-laden wishes.

It struck me profoundly: this is the only Christmas card we’ve received this year. For a moment, I just sat there, stunned by the realization. Then, an uncomfortable truth hit me—I, too, had fallen into the trap of busyness and misplaced priorities. I didn’t add to my gifts this year or send out a single card myself.

So, thank you, Paulius and Karolina! Not just for the card but for the festive wake-up call. Thank you for pulling me out of this digitized slumber and reminding me of what’s real. Your card wasn’t just a card—it carried a coded message of thought, emotion, and connection. In a world dominated by fleeting digital interactions, your words felt like a deep breath of fresh air. They served as a grounding reminder of the joy of simple, tangible gestures. Thank you for awakening something within me. ❤️

I hope my honest writing will give you some thoughts, too. Maybe it will be your wake-up call, as well.

We must find time for reflection. Above all, the festive season is the perfect time to slow down and reflect, especially around the New Year. Do my priorities and actions align? Did I fall into the trap of busyness? Do I manage my personal, social, and digital life healthily?…

In conclusion, it is never too late to change the direction that your life is going in. We know this simple truth well. Let’s find strength and toughness within ourselves to hear inner wake-up calls and act upon them.
