Petra with Kids / We Love Jordan

Petra with kids

Our Family spent a fantastic long weekend in Jordan last June traveling with kids around and exploring wonders of Petra and relaxing at the Dead Sea. Four days there were magnificent, safe and most importantly relaxing. Therefore I want to share a flashback of our trip with you.

First of all, we were impressed by Petra – one of the world’s most famous archaeological sites. It used to be Nabatean caravan-city and an important crossroad between Arabia, Egypt, and Syria. The city is situated between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea and inhabited since prehistoric times. It is half-built, half-carved into the rock city with an ingenious water management system. It was fun to explore Petra with kids. We enjoyed a walk through a narrow canyon leading the main temple, with an ornate, Greek-style facade, and known as The Treasury, tombs, and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs. And kids loved to ride donkeys the most.

Indeed, we enjoyed Petra a lot. But we also tried to swim in the Deat Sea there you always float and face difficulty to stand. It was an exceptional experience for all of us. Apparently, it is not a sea rather a lake. And it is also called the Sea of Salt. It is 9,6 times saltyer than the ocean, which makes swimming similar to floating.

We also drove a bit around the country visiting other famous archeological sites like Shobak Castle and Mount Nebo. It was enjoyable to travel around with kids. We tried traditional food. Certainly, you can see and explore so much in Jordan.

Check out my short video – a flashback of what we saw and explored.

Check out our other regional trip to Oman as well – Wild Beach Camping in Oman. There are so many epic places worth visiting in the Middle East. Check them on Lonely Planet and get some inspiration for your next family trip.

With Love,

Ausra
